What Exercise Burns the Most Belly Fat?

If you’re like some of us, you’ll probably have found yourself putting on weight during self-isolation. Whether you’ve found yourself gaining weight or have stubborn belly fat which doesn’t seem to budge, burning fat is much easier than you think.

Doing a variety of exercises which combine cardio, core work and strength is the easiest way to reduce body fat and achieve that desired well-toned stomach. While the gym is the perfect place to start, many of these exercises can be done in the comfort of your own home with the help of an online fitness platform.

Running, walking, cycling, elliptical training, rowing and yoga is great at helping you lose weight all over, however, if you’d like to be more specific and really tone your belly , there are many cardio workout moves which you should know about.

Through many of these exercises, you’ll not only burn fat on your stomach , but you can also build a stronger and well-toned abdominal physique while shedding those stubborn love handles. In this guide, we explain which exercises burn the most fat and allow you to easily gain a toned physique.

Burpees

Burpees are extremely easy to do and are excellent for working your core, chest, shoulders, triceps and quads. They are also perfect for getting your heart pumping, too.

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and lower your body towards the ground in a low squat. Switch to a press-up position after you lower to the ground, pushing your hands against the floor and allowing your chest to touch the floor. Push your hands down to lift your torso back up, then jump to your feet with your arms overhead.

Mountain Climbers

Mountain climbers work your core, joints and muscles at the same time. In particular, mountain climbers target your triceps, deltoids, abs, back, hip flexors, quads, and hamstrings.

To do mountain climbers, get into a high-plank position with your wrists shoulder-width apart and your hands flat on the ground. Try to keep your core muscles tight and kick your right knee forward towards your chest, then bring it back. Continue to do this with alternate sides each time.

Russian Twists

Russian twists work the abdominal muscles by performing a twisting motion on the abdomen, allowing you to very easily tone your core.

To do a Russian twist, sit down on the floor with your knees bent and feet above the ground, level with the height of your shoulders. Lean back until your torso is at a 45-degree angle and begin turning your torso to the right, keeping still while squeezing your oblique muscles. After a few seconds, turn your torso to the left and squeeze your muscles. Movements should come from your ribs and torso, not from your arms.

Kettlebell Swing

The kettlebell swing is one of the most rewarding exercises if you’re looking to lose fat, with kettlebells known as one of the best gym weapons! In addition to working your abs, Kettlebell swings put your glutes, hips and quads to work and skyrockets your heart rate straight away. This exercise is perfect for working your core.

To do a kettlebell swing, you should start with the kettlebell on the floor in front of you. Bend your knees and grasp the kettlebell. Securely hold the kettlebell with both hands at an arm's-length in front of you, then thrust your hips forward while squeezing your glutes. Swing the kettlebell to your shoulder height, then return back to your original position and repeat.

Front-Kick Lunges

Front-kick lunges target your glutes, quadriceps, abs, calves and hamstrings. This exercise is sure to get your blood pumping and increase your heart rate! Front-kick lunges also provide you with a great cardio boost, tone your glute muscles, increase your flexibility and core stability, as well as helping you burn unwanted belly fat.

HIIT

While you can’t specifically target one area with a workout, research shows that high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts work wonders for a belly fat workout. Many professionals swear by improving your diet (for example, eating whole foods and ditching sugar and processed food) as well as high-intensity interval training workouts.

This intense training exercise is fully effective in getting rid of stubborn abdominal body fat, more so than traditional cardio. So your tummy is highly likely to benefit from a frequent 20 minute HIIT workout.

Some popular HIIT movements which work well for burning belly fat include

  • Sprint in place
  • Side leap and balance
  • Jumping squats
